The Pokémon Company announced today the cancellation of the 2021 Pokémon World Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
This decision marks the second straight time the event gets cancelled in London because of the contagious disease.
The 2019 Pokémon World Championships took place in Washington, D.C.
“After careful review and pursuant to guidance set forth by local, regional, and national health authorities, as well as the World Health Organization, Public Health England, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, we have made the difficult decision to move out the next Pokémon World Championships to 2022. This event is planned to take place in London, UK,” says the post.
Also, all players that were invited to participate in the 2020 Pokémon World Championships will have the opportunity to return for the 2022 Pokémon World Championships.
Fans who wish to participate this year may do show via competitive online play with events such as Pokémon Players Cup and the Play! Pokémon Team Challenge.
“Look forward to an expanded celebration of Pokémon competition next year.”
