As the shutdown of the game streaming service Google Stadia is coming on January 18, Google announced a tool will be released next week that will enable Bluetooth connections for the Stadia controller.
The Bluetooth chip was disabled when Google first released the Stadia Controller as a device that can connect directly to Stadia services. Fans have been figuring up hacks to link the controller wirelessly to other devices ever since word of the Stadia closure first surfaced.
The Google Stadia service will end on January 18 at 11:59 PT/ January 19 at 2:59 AM ET. Users will lose access to all games and saved games, although many publishers are letting Stadia users transfer their game purchases and unfinished game progress to other platforms.
Google has been reimbursing users for Stadia software purchases made via Google’s streaming store and even hardware purchases made from the Google Store. It also anticipates processing the majority of these requests by the shutdown deadline of January 18.
“We’ve also got Bluetooth news: next week we’ll be releasing a self-serve tool to enable Bluetooth connections on your Stadia Controller. We’ll share details here on release.”
Though the Google Stadia controller Bluetooth support is coming soon, are you ready to say “au revoir” to Google Stadia?
