The San Diego Comic-Con 2021 has been cancelled for the second consecutive time due to COVID-19 concerns.
According to organizers, this year’s convention will take place online once again with the virtual Comic-Con@Home event.
“Unfortunately, the challenges of this past year and the multiple postponements of our two largest events have left us with limited financial resources, so this year the online experience will be reduced to a three-day event, spanning July 23-25, 2021.”
The news comes 18 days after the announcement of the cancellation of WonderCon. Instead of three-day event in-person event from March 26-28, the WonderCon online event will run for just two days from March 26-27.
There may still be hope as the organizers are planning for a smaller, three-day in-person event in November. “At this time, we are still working on specific details as to attendance capacity, badge cost, and related information, and those details will be forthcoming.”
More info will be available on comic-con.org about this event.
Also, people whose tickets were rolled over for the 2021 event will be transferred for next year’s. Fans do have the option to request a refund if they so wish. Requests can be made at https://www.comic-con.org/cci/comic-con-cancellationrefund-policy.
Organizers are also working on an option for fans to transfer their 2021 ticket or badge to the one in November.
Last year, the organizers announced the cancellation of Comic-Con 2020 on April 17, 2020.
