11 bit studios announces Frostpunk 2

Today, 11 bit studios announced Frostpunk 2, the sequel to the 2018 PC game that combines city-building, strategy, survival and society simulation genres.

“Frostpunk 2 is the first announced project of the three that our in-house development teams are working on,” said Przemysław Marszał, President of the Management Board and CEO at 11 bit studios S.A.

“The player will resume the role of the leader of a city which depends on scarce resources for survival and growth and where expansion and the search for new energy sources are inevitable. However, the apocalyptic world has moved on,” says the press release about Frostpunk 2. “After the age of coal, the remnant humanity’s new hope for survival and conquest of the frigid Frostland is the development of the oil industry. Change, however, will not come easily, as not everyone in the diverse and stratified society will embrace this new direction.”

The 70-member development team is working on many details to make the game much more realistic. “With more manpower, we can focus on all aspects of the new game, including its scale, refinement, and overall gaming experience, but our main ambition is to create something more than a mere continuation,” says Jakub Stokalski, Co-Director for Frostpunk 2. “Frostpunk 2 builds on the conflicts of the previous game: survival versus human values or life versus Arctic frost. However, it will also add a whole new layer across many aspects of the game, including politics, society and technological progress, i.e. the conflict between humans and their own nature.”

The first title made its debut on PC in 2018 and sold over three million copies.

This announcement comes three months after the developer announced its work with NetEase Games (owned by Tencent) to bring the first Frostpunk title to iOS and Android.

The title already has its dedicated pages on Steam, GOG and Epic Store.
