According to The Wrap and The New York Post, Warner Bros. Discovery has decided not to release the upcoming DC Comics’ Batgirl film starring actress Leslie Grace.
Filming for Batgirl, directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah (“Bad Boys for Life”), was completed in March. The film was originally expected for a late 2022 debut on HBO Max. There was also some consideration to take the film to theaters by former WB chairperson Toby Emmerich.
Emmerich left the company after Warner Bros. merged with Discovery. However, the film reached its end after poor opinions of moviegoers during test screenings. The NYP article says, “the studio decided to cut its losses and run, for the sake of the brand’s future.”
According to insiders, the new WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav wants to continue working with the film’s directors and star. Zaslav was responsible for shutting down the $300m streaming service CNN+.
