Today, Nintendo and Microsoft announced the return of GoldenEye 007 to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack and Xbox Game Pass respectively.
The classic first-person shooter returns 25 years after its original release on the Nintendo 64. However, each new console version will offer something different.
The version for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S will offer “improved control options (including dual analogue stick support), native 16:9 resolution up to 4K Ultra HD (where supported), a consistent refresh rate and a full complement of achievements to unlock.” Xbox Game Pass subscribers will be able to play the game. Those who purchase a digital copy of Rare Replay will also be able to geti the game for free. Xbox made the announcement via its website and Twitter.
Meanwhile, the Nintendo Switch version will come exclusively with online multiplayer. The title will be included as part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. Other N64 games will also join the 007 title: Pilotwings 64, Mario Party and Mario Party 2 in 2022, with Mario Party 3, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Stadium 2, 1080° Snowboarding and Excitebike 64.
For many fans of this game, the announcement has become a dream come true.
