Are you ready for Metro?

Microsoft’s newest update (now available after a 9-hour delay) today marks a big step for the company in trying to become a leader in entertainment in its users’ living rooms.

For Microsoft, the availability of the new interface (known as Metro) is expanding from the Windows Phone 7 smartphones to the Xbox 360 starting today, and in 2012, it will offer a new versión of its computer operating system, Windows 8, with touch-based charcteristics on its interface. For now, Xbox 360 users will have to get used to Metro after 3 years of using the now-old interface that is being replaced by millions of people.

Besides the new interface, new services will be offered for users of the paid subscription service Xbox Live Gold, though some selected services will be used by game players for free. Gold users will enjoy watching TV channels live via Xbox Live. Diverse TV channels will be seen in over 20 countries.

After the update,  some aplicaciones have to be downloaded again (such as ESPN, Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.).

¿Están listos para Metro?

La nueva actualización de Microsoft (ahora disponible tras una demora de 8 horas) hoy marca un gran paso para la empresa en tratar de llegar a ser el líder en entretenimiento en todas las salas de los hogares de los usuarios.

Para Microsoft, la disponibilidad de la nueva interfaz (conocida como Metro) se expande de sus teléfonos inteligentes Windows Phone 7 a la Xbox 360 a partir de hoy, y en el 2012, ofrecerá la nueva versión del sistema operativo de computadoras, Windows 8, con características táctiles en su interfaz. Por ahora, los usuarios del Xbox 360 tendrán que acostumbrarse a Metro tras tres años de uso del interfaz que está siendo remplazado por millones de personas.

A parte del nuevo interfaz, se ofrecerán nuevos servicios mayormente para los usuarios del servicio de suscripción por pago Xbox Live Gold, aunque unos podrán ser usados por jugadores del servicio gratis. Los usuarios Gold disfrutarán de la transmisión de canales en vivo via Xbox Live. Diversos canales de televisión serán vistos en más de 20 países.

Tras realizar la actualización, algunas aplicaciones tienen que ser descargar otra vez (tales como ESPN, Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc.).
