Au revoir, Nintendo Power?!

nintendo power issue 001 cover

[EN]: I was sad earlier today when I found out Nintendo Power, one of the magazines I grew up reading, is coming to an end. Sure, there are not that many magazines as before, but it’s sad to see a magazine almost as old as EGM and GamePro say adiós.

Before Google, Netscape, AOL and basically the Internet, magazines were the main source of information for gamers. Taking a magazine to school and sharing the news from it with friends was an awesome thing to do.

It isn’t the only magazine that has had problems. The US version of GamePro magazine came to an end late last year, and its site was moved to a section of PC World. EGM had closed down, too, but it was able to return and is still around.

The magazine was in charge of Nintendo until late 2007 when Futura Publishing took over Nintendo Power. The one source told Ars Technica that Nintendo seems not intrested in being in charge of the magazine again. People at Futura who work on Nintendo Power were told last week about the closing of the magazine.

The senior editor at Nintendo Power, Chris Hoffman, said he feels “sad to see it go” and that he and his team would “try to make the last issue memorable.” Both tweets were removed.

As a reader of game magazines and books since the arrival of the NES and of later consoles, I wish Nintendo Power could continue. I will definitely make sure I get the last issues.
