[EN]: According to Game Informer and Kotaku, Disney has closed down Lucasarts today and has laid off over 150 people as a result. Two titles that have been in development (Star Wars: First Assault and Star Wars 1313) have been cancelled, says a Kotaku source.

Disney bought Lucasarts parent company, LucasFilm, last October, but information surfaced last month about putting on hold work on the mentioned Star Wars games.

Since 1982, Lucasarts has developed and also published games such as Maniac Mansion, The Secret of Monkey Island, Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, and the ones related to Star Wars. Its last developed game was Kinect Star Wars for the Xbox 360.

The Kotaku post also says Disney could license its Star Wars games, but it seems very unlikely a developer might pick them up.

Disney also close down Junction Point Studios in January.

The home of Mickey Mouse still has Disney Interactive Studios to develop games.

“After evaluating our position in the games market, we’ve decided to shift LucasArts from an internal development to a licensing model, minimizing the company’s risk while achieving a broader portfolio of quality Star Wars games. As a result of this change, we’ve had layoffs across the organization. We are incredibly appreciative and proud of the talented teams who have been developing our new titles,” says an official Disney statement.

It seems though that Star Wars 1313 can’t be ruled out. “It is worth noting that we are looking for proven external partners who can help us provide video games to our fans. We still believe in the video game industry, we still will provide Star Wars games, we’re just looking at different models rather than internal production… They’re evaluating everything. There’s always a possibility that it [Star Wars 1313] can still come out via licensing.”
