Reprising her role as Rey (Skywalker), Daisy Ridley will star in a new Star Wars film set more than a decade after Lucasfilm’s sequel trilogy. The upcoming movie, set in an unexplored era known as the New Jedi Order, follows Rey as she rebuilds the Jedi Order, which is now on the brink of extinction.
At the Star Wars Celebration 2023 in London, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy unveiled the new film as one of three theatrical Star Wars projects. The sequel to Rise of Skywalker will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders), with details on the plot being kept under wraps.
Obaid-Chinoy was initially set to direct a script from screenwriters Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, but the pair left the project earlier this year. While additional casting has not been announced, the film is expected to feature Rey establishing a new Jedi Academy and training a new generation of recruits. No release date has been revealed yet.
