Mario Kart 9 is in active development, analyst says

Mario Kart 9 is in active development, Kantan Games consultant Dr. Serkan Toto told GamesIndustry.biz.

Though his statements to GamesIndustry.biz were supposed to be predictions for 2021 and 2022, his one statement about Mario Kart 9 being developed was more of a confirmation than a prediction.

“I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year.”

In addition, he mentioned the Big N could reveal Mario Kart 9 this year, along with another “established IP” coming to smartphones.

Also, his six predictions about the video game industry for 2021 were almost all correct. He only was wrong about the Switch Pro release in 2021. It was the OLED one that was launched last year.

Though fans of Mario Kart have only played the Deluxe version of Mario Kart 8 that was originally released on the Wii U, there hasn’t been a new Mario Kart title. Mario Kart 8 was release on the Wii U on May 30, 2014. Meanwhile, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe was released for Switch on April 28, 2017.
